Maia Sandu: Within two years, Moldova could be energy independent from Russia
Within two years we could be totally energy independent from the Russian Federation, says Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
During a broadcast on the Voice of Bessarabia, the head of state said that investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency are very important for our country, and this would even help to increase the levers for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
"I believe that on the energy side, the fact that we are increasing our independence and at some point we will no longer depend on the Russian Federation, increases our leverage, including in this process of resolving the Transnistrian conflict. We are practically independent on the gas side, because we are not dependent on the Russian Federation. Of course, we are dependent on market prices and there is still volatility. Prices are still high and we need to invest in renewable energy, in energy efficiency. All these things happen, they cannot be done in half a year, but in two years, when we complete the Chisinau-Vulcanesti project, we will have total energy independence from the Russian Federation," said Maia Sandu.
