Sheriff, "tough nut" for Zimbru
Sheriff Tiraspol won the 108th episode of the Moldovan football classic. "Wasps" won away against historical rival Zimbru Chisinau, scoring 2-0 in the third round of the play-off of the Moldovan Super League.
The guests opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Abdoul Tapsoba scored from Renan Gedeș's cross. Tiraspol increased their lead in the 49th minute through central defender Gabi Kiki. Zimbru threw themselves into the attack and missed on the break, but could not avoid defeat.
"I'm disappointed, but we had chances. That means we need to work more on finishing." Zimbru Chisinau captain Stefan Burghiu said after the match.
"These are 3 very important points and I am happy. It's the derby of Moldovan football and this was felt." Rasheed Akambi of Sheriff said.
Thanks to this victory, Sheriff consolidated their position as leader of the standings with 9 points, while Zimbru is in second place with 4 points. On Sunday, 2 April, two more matches are scheduled in the play-off of the National Super League. Sfîntul Gheorghe will meet Milsami Orhei from 14:00, while in Hîncești, Petrocubul will receive the replica of FC Bălți, starting at 16:00.
