Authorities in Moldova's breakaway region of Transnistria declared a new 30-day economic state of emergency on Friday, citing a severe energy crisis and natural gas shortages.

The measure was approved during an extraordinary online session of the region's legislature. It follows a decree signed by the separatist leader, Vadim Krasnoselski, aimed at managing the impact of dwindling energy supplies on the local economy.

According to the Chisinau-based media outlet Zona de Securitate, the emergency status takes effect six hours after its official publication. The decision comes after a previous three-month emergency period expired on 17 March.

Regional officials justified the move by pointing to the persistent lack of reliable gas deliveries. This shortage continues to disrupt industrial output and heating across the territory, which relies heavily on Russian energy imports.

The reinstatement of emergency powers underscores the ongoing instability in the pro-Russian enclave. No long-term solution for the region's energy security has been reached between the authorities in Tiraspol and the central government in Chisinau.
