IGP: “Farewell note” made public is not Ludmila Vartic’s pre-death note

The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) has issued clarifications following the appearance in the public space of a letter, which is alleged to be the farewell note left before her death by Ludmila Vartic. According to the police, “it is not the farewell letter left by the victim on the day of her death; these are two different materials.”
The letter in question was presented to the law enforcement authorities by the victim’s husband, who is currently a suspect in the criminal case, the IGP said.
“Both documents – the one that appeared in the public space and the one identified on the day of the death – are part of the case file materials. In this regard, specialized expert examinations have been ordered to precisely determine all relevant circumstances,” the IGP stated in a press release.
The Police and the Prosecutor’s Office are carrying out all necessary actions, in strict accordance with legal provisions, in order to fully clarify the case and establish all the circumstances that led to this tragedy. Given that the investigations are ongoing and the criminal case is in progress, certain details cannot be made public at this stage, the police informed.
In this context, the public is urged to avoid speculation and to share only verified information.
We remind you that on the morning of March 3, 38‑year‑old Ludmila Vartic, mother of two children and a kindergarten teacher by profession, was found lifeless near a block of flats in the capital. According to preliminary data, she is believed to have fallen from a height and is said to have left a farewell note, and the forensic doctor did not find signs of violence on her body.
Subsequently, the General Police Inspectorate announced that two criminal proceedings had been initiated, and the victim’s husband, Dumitru Vartic, has the legal status of suspect.
On March 19, Vartic released a video message in which he provided details about the circumstances of his wife’s death and the organization of the funeral. He rejects the accusations that he was violent towards his wife and claims that the tragedy was preceded by serious health problems and depressive episodes suffered by the woman.
After the case became public, Dumitru Vartic resigned from his position as vice president of the Hîncești District Council. He was also expelled from the Party of Action and Solidarity. In addition, the director of the Hîncești District Hospital, Petru Ciubotaru, resigned after admitting that he had failed to notify law enforcement authorities in November 2025, when the woman was admitted to the hospital following a suicide attempt.
