"Șor" activist jailed, another wanted; court orders confiscation of 2.5M lei

Two leaders of the former "Șor" party from Dondușeni and Fălești was sentenced to four years in prison after the Central Court of Appeal rejected their lawyers' appeal and upheld the first-instance decision.

The Central Court of Appeal rejected the appeal filed by the defense attorney for the presidents of the Dondușeni and Fălești territorial offices of the former political party "Șor," upholding the sentence issued by the Chișinău Court based in Buiucani on September 25, 2025, as specified by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

The two were found guilty of knowingly accepting money from an organized criminal group to finance the party. In addition to their prison sentences, they will be prohibited from carrying out financial activities within political parties or being party members for four years.

In the case of the former leader from Dondușeni, the court ordered the confiscation of over 1.5 million lei, and he was arrested immediately in the courtroom. The other leader from Fălești is currently being sought, and the judges have ordered the confiscation of approximately 1 million lei from his account.

The investigation revealed that between July and October 2022, the two allegedly accepted over 2.5 million lei on behalf of the party. This money was reportedly used to pay protest participants and for salaries "in an envelope."

The decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within two months.

We remind you that the "Șor" party was declared unconstitutional and dissolved in 2023. Its leader, fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, who is currently in Moscow, has been sentenced to a definitive 15-year prison term in the Republic of Moldova in the "Bank Fraud" case.
