“Thank you, Romania!”: Parliament applauds 108th anniversary of the Union

The Parliament applauded the presence of the delegation from the Legal, Appointments, Discipline, Immunities, and Validations Committee of the Romanian Senate during the plenary session in Chisinau. This event took place on March 27, marking the 108th anniversary of the Union of Bassarabia with Romania.
"We celebrate the ever-closer connection between the two banks of the Prut," declared Igor Grosu, the Parliament Speaker who emphasized Romania's consistent support that has been felt by "each of us" in recent years.
"Romania stood by us during the pandemic, has supported us for more than four years amid the war at our borders, has been there when we faced cold and darkness, supported us on our European path, and swiftly intervened with assistance in recent days after the Nistru was polluted due to Russian aggression in Ukraine," pointed out the Parliament Speaker.
Igor Grosu extended his congratulations to all Romanians on the occasion of the Union: "We thank Romania, and congratulations to you, dear Romanians!"
Deputy Igor Dodon, the President of the Socialist Party (PSRM), expressed gratitude for Romania's support but insisted that the plenary session of Parliament is not the appropriate venue for unionist messages. "Brother, brother, but each man is master of his own house," declared Igor Dodon.
In response, Igor Grosu acknowledged Dodon for "starting well," but noted that he ended "catastrophically."
March 27 marks the 108th anniversary of the Union of Bassarabia with Romania. This was the first of the historical provinces to unite with the Motherland, followed by Bukovina and Transylvania, culminating in the formation of Greater Romania on December 1, 1918.
On March 27, 1918, the Council of the Country convened in a solemn session in Chisinau. The event was attended by Daniel Ciugureanu, the President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Moldova, all members of the government, and Romanian Prime Minister Alexandru Marghiloman, along with the special envoy of King Ferdinand I.
"The Moldovan Democratic Republic (Bassarabia), within its borders between the Prut, the Nistru, the Black Sea, and the old boundaries with Austria, which were severed by Russia over a hundred years ago from the body of ancient Moldova, in accordance with historical law and the right of nations, based on the principle that peoples alone decide their fate, from this day forward and forever UNITES WITH ITS MOTHER, ROMANIA," states the declaration of the Country Council.
Eighty-six members of the Country Council voted in favor of the Union of Bassarabia with Romania, while there were three votes against and 36 abstentions.
