Moldova offers €16,000 grants to boost rural employment

The Moldovan government is offering rural entrepreneurs grants of up to €16,020 (approx. 310,000 MDL) to stimulate job creation and local investment, according to Labour Minister Natalia Plugaru.
The programme covers up to 65% of total project costs, requiring employers to provide the remaining 35% as a personal contribution. The funds target essential business assets, including industrial machinery, technological equipment, and office infrastructure.
"This measure encourages the creation of new positions specifically for those currently seeking employment in the countryside," Plugaru said during a government briefing.
To qualify, business owners must submit a formal business plan outlining the creation of at least one new job. Once approved, entrepreneurs have 60 days to complete the investment and finalize the hiring process.
Official data shows the scheme has already issued 136 grants across 26 districts over the last four years, primarily within the agricultural sector. These projects have resulted in over 200 new jobs.
"These results demonstrate that investing in local rural businesses yields tangible benefits for communities," Minister Plugaru concluded.
The initiative remains a key pillar of Chisinau's strategy to develop rural economies and provide citizens with viable reasons to remain and work within the country.
