Moldova restores key power line after Russian drone strikes

Ukraine has fully restored and put back into operation a strategic high-voltage power line connecting its grid to Romania, the Ministry of Energy announced on Saturday.
The 400 kV Isaccea-Vulcanesti overhead line resumed service after Ukrainian crews completed repairs. The infrastructure had been damaged by Russian drone strikes targeting energy facilities in southern Ukraine.
Testing under high voltage has confirmed the line is operating safely and stably. The restoration bolsters Moldova's interconnection capacity and secures the nation's electricity supply, which is critical for its energy independence.
Infrastructure resilience
The ministry confirmed that the cross-border link was repaired following "attacks by the Russian Federation's drones on energy infrastructure in the southern region of Ukraine."
While the connection is operational, authorities emphasized that the repair does not eliminate the need for efficient energy use.
Call for conservation
Energy officials urged the population to continue using electricity responsibly to avoid straining the national grid.
"Repairing and restarting the line does not mean our calls for rational energy use have lost their relevance," the ministry stated. Officials warned that waste leads to higher utility bills and additional pressure on the national energy system.
