Chinese professor brings traditional medicine to Republic of Moldova: “A small country that impresses”

China is a country that attracts many visitors with its rich culture and ancient traditions. However, some individuals make the opposite journey. One such person is Jin Jianjun, a Chinese doctor and university professor who has come to the Republic of Moldova. He aims to share his knowledge and experience in traditional Chinese medicine with local doctors, medical students, and Moldovan patients.

The doctor is part of the delegation of five specialists from China who work at the only Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Republic of Moldova. The institution serves as a training base for medical students and Moldovan doctors, while also offering acupuncture, massage and herbal treatments.

For the first time, Jin Jianjun came to the Republic of Moldova in 2016. During that period, the project lasted two years. He returned to our country relatively recently, more precisely in October 2025.

China is a global economic power, with a diverse culture that attracts thousands of tourists annually. Asked what he thought of the Republic of Moldova, he said: "There is a difference between China and Moldova in terms of surface area, obviously, but Moldova, being a small country, has a very rich culture and cultural baggage, which impresses us, we like it very much."

And in the Republic of Moldova, as well as in China, from the city where he comes from, there are four seasons.

"In terms of temperatures and seasons, it's okay, I've adapted well. The city where I come from - Gansu, is at an altitude of over 1,500 meters above sea level. Of course, Moldova is much lower, so there is a difference in climate. Apart from the activities within the Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, of course, like any other person, I think about my family. We have young specialists who left small children there, in China, we have a few specialists. Of course, the longing for home, for family, for children, for spouses is quite great. And, sometimes, this longing grinds you down", Jin Jianjun said, on the "Zi de Zi" show on Radio Moldova.

Referring to his mission in our country, the promotion of Chinese medicine, Jin Jianjun spoke about the advantages it offers compared to modern medicine most people are used to.

"Chinese and contemporary medicine have positive points, but also some limitations. Of course, the technical and scientific progress is extraordinary in our countries. Medicine is advancing very quickly. AI-assisted surgeries are already being performed, even on the heart, and diagnostics, but Chinese medicine has a holistic approach. So, it helps regulate all organs and supports good functioning both physically and psycho-emotionally. Of course, Chinese medicine has a very rich history, dating back several thousand years. It comes with clear scientific evidence. The World Health Organization recommends acupuncture for 145 diseases. This proves its effectiveness in those diseases", said Jin Jianjun, on Radio Moldova.
