Forensic exam in Ludmila Vartic case completed; cause of death confirmed

Ludmila Vartic died after falling from a height. This conclusion was reached by experts in the forensic report, which stated that the 38-year-old woman’s death resulted from multiple fractures and trauma to her internal organs.

The General Prosecutor's Office (PG) reports that the injuries found on the victim are consistent with a fall from a height, which occurred intravitally and simultaneously, indicating a direct connection to the cause of her death.

In the criminal investigation regarding Ludmila Vartic, the wife of a former vice president of the Hâncești district, who allegedly took her own life after enduring years of domestic violence, several witnesses have been interviewed. Various objects and documents have been seized, and additional on-site investigations were conducted.

Furthermore, the authorities have ordered graphological, graphoscopic, and physical-technical examinations, along with informational analyses of the mobile phones belonging to the victim, her husband Dumitru Vartic—who is considered a suspect in the case—and certain witnesses.

Once the necessary evidence has been collected, a post-mortem psychological and psychiatric examination of the victim will be ordered. The prosecutors have developed a detailed action plan for handling these types of crimes, which takes into account the standards set by the European Court of Human Rights.

It is important to note that Ludmila Vartic reportedly committed suicide on March 3 by jumping from an apartment building at Poșta Veche in Chișinău, shortly after spending the last day with her two young daughters, who were with their father in Hâncești.

Ludmila was quickly buried two days later, without any public announcement of her death. The case became known on March 7, when her relatives shared it on social media.

Law enforcement in Hâncești opened a criminal case for domestic violence on March 9; however, on March 17, by order of the Prosecutor General, it was withdrawn and redirected for criminal prosecution to the Police Inspectorate in the Râșcani sector of the capital.

Meanwhile, Dumitru Vartic resigned as vice president of the Hâncești district. Public reports also emerged that his wife had previously attempted suicide in November 2025 after he brought his mistress home. Following this incident, Ludmila moved to Chișinău, where she resided with her mother and sister in the Poșta Veche apartment building.
