Moldova detects Shahed drone in its airspace near Ukraine border

Moldova’s Ministry of Defence reported an unauthorised violation of its airspace on Tuesday evening after military radars detected a Shahed-type drone entering from Ukraine.

The Iranian-designed loitering munition crossed the border at 21:29 from the Odesa region. It flew over the districts of Dubăsari and Orhei at an altitude of 1,700 metres and an estimated speed of 180 km/h. Ukrainian authorities confirmed the flight path to their Moldovan counterparts.

Emergency measures

In response to the incursion, the Civil Aviation Authority temporarily restricted airspace over northern Moldova for 15 minutes. The restriction ended at 22:18 after the craft vanished from radar screens near the village of Clișova.

The National Army continues to monitor the situation alongside the Border Police and emergency services. Military officials stated they are cooperating with regional specialists to ensure public safety following the incident.

Official guidance

Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and seek information only from official government channels. The Ministry requested that any sightings of suspicious aircraft be reported immediately via the 112 emergency service.
