Moldovans face final day for discounted health insurance

Unemployed and self-employed citizens in Moldova have one day left to pay their mandatory health insurance premiums at a significantly reduced rate.

Until March 31, specific groups can access an 80% discount, paying only €131 (approx. 2,527 MDL). This preferential rate applies to agricultural landowners, patent holders, and small business founders.

Payment and compliance

The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) reports that over 138,000 citizens settled their premiums between January 1 and March 30. This figure represents an increase of 4,000 people compared to the same period last year.

Payments can be processed through the government's electronic service, MPay.

Penalties for non-compliance

Individuals who miss the deadline will be liable for the full EUR 656 fee. Additionally, late-payment penalties will accrue daily for every day the premium remains unpaid.

Under Moldovan law, health insurance is mandatory for all residents not explicitly insured by the government.
