Over 9M family doctor visits in 2025, averaging ~360 lei each

In 2025, mandatory healthcare insurance funds covered over nine million visits to family doctors. The average cost of a visit increased by 52 lei compared to 2024, totalling approximately 360 lei.
According to the National Health Insurance Company, approximately one-third of visits to family doctors were for preventive purposes, while more than 63% were for curative and supportive care. Additionally, primary health care was provided to over 560,000 uninsured individuals, accounting for 6% of total visits.
For the provision of primary health care, more than 3.4 billion lei was allocated, 12% more than in 2024.
To ensure access to paraclinical medical services (such as laboratory tests and investigations) based on referrals from family doctors, over 13 million services were provided in 2025, with a total value of about 678 million lei.
Starting July 1, 2025, to enhance patient adherence to outpatient tuberculosis treatment, the phthisiopneumology service was integrated into primary health care.
Last year, primary health care services were provided by 282 providers: three at the national level, 20 at the municipal level, 217 at the district level, four at the departmental level, and 38 private providers.
Primary health care includes a range of medical services, such as prevention, early disease detection, treatment and support, provided by family doctors and other specialists (including paediatricians, obstetrician-gynaecologists, phthisiopneumologists, etc.). It is guaranteed for all citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of whether they are insured or uninsured.
