Moldova bolsters rapid response capabilities with US-funded mobile units

The General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) has expanded its operational fleet with eight new pickup trucks, provided through a donation funded by the United States Government.
The handover, which includes modern protective gear and technical equipment, aims to modernize field activities and enhance the safety of officers across Moldova.
Enhanced mobility and response
Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, emphasized during the ceremony that this contribution represents a strategic investment in public safety.
“This means faster intervention, superior mobility, and more efficient field access,” stated Misail-Nichitin. She noted that the equipment directly improves working conditions for officers serving the community daily.
Mobile units as decentralized hubs
The new vehicles will be deployed to six mobile police sectors, significantly reducing emergency response times in rural and remote areas.
Authorities highlighted that these units eliminate the need for fixed offices. Citizens will no longer have to travel to distant police stations, as these mobile units bring law enforcement services directly to their locations.
Alignment with international standards

Viorel Cernăuțeanu, Head of the General Inspectorate of Police, acknowledged the critical role of international partners in building institutional capacity.
“Modern equipment allows us to intervene more effectively, providing increased safety for citizens and professional working conditions for our staff,” Cernăuțeanu remarked.
The donation was facilitated through the project "Strengthening Police Capabilities in Public Order and Combating Cybercrime in Moldova." The initiative is funded by the U.S. Government and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova.
