Strategic investments in Cahul and the Cantemir–Fălciu railway line under review by authorities

The rehabilitation of the Cantemir–Fălciu railway section is progressing, with the first kilometers already restored and tested. Additionally, authorities have emphasized the need to accelerate the works at the Cahul wastewater treatment plant. These assessments were made following an inspection visit to southern Moldova by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

In the municipality of Cahul, the official met with workers and field managers to discuss the urgent need to expedite work at the treatment plant, a crucial project for the region's water and sewage systems. "This is one of the most significant infrastructure projects for water and sewage in southern Moldova, and its implementation is essential for providing services to approximately 40,000 citizens of Cahul," stated Vladimir Bolea.
The project is substantially funded, receiving co-financing from Germany of 41.5 million euros and from the European Union of 12.9 million euros, making it one of the most significant investments in the water sector in the Republic of Moldova, according to a press release from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister also inspected the rehabilitation work on the Cantemir–Fălciu railway section. According to the presented data, approximately four kilometers of the combined railway have been restored thus far, with technical tests confirming the infrastructure's functionality. Simultaneously, efforts are ongoing to install the European gauge, which is necessary to connect the national railway network to the European system.
For the Văleni–Cahul sector, the works also aim to strengthen the Prut River bank. To date, 920 holes have been drilled, and about 8,000 tons of concrete have been poured to protect the railway infrastructure.

The official's visit reaffirmed the importance of directly monitoring strategic projects and maintaining a steady pace of work. This approach ensures that investments are completed and made available to citizens as quickly as possible, reads the press release.
