First Kyiv–Chișinău Airport train service launched. Bolea: “Platform will be fully rebuilt”

A direct train from Kyiv railway station to “Eugen Doga” Chișinău International Airport launched on April 14. The train left Kyiv on the evening of April 13 and arrived today near Chișinău, in Revaca, Sângera. From there, passengers were transported free of charge to the airport.

A train carrying nearly 50 passengers departed Kyiv at 19:00 yesterday and arrived at Revaca station near Chișinău, from where passengers were transferred to the airport by bus for the first time.

The rail segment had previously served only freight traffic. Chișinău Airport provided free shuttle buses in cooperation with the State Enterprise “Calea Ferată din Moldova.” The service runs as a joint experimental project, with full testing underway, and may become permanent if results prove successful.

Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Bolea said the trial aims to evaluate the route. He noted that Revaca station is already under redesign, with plans for modernization, new signage, and facilities such as waiting areas and rooms for mothers and children, with a future name change to “Revaca Airport”.

He also stated that the platform will be fully rebuilt to ensure maximum comfort for passengers, including parents with strollers and people with disabilities. Authorities aim to reduce travel time to the airport amid growing air traffic, with Ukrainian passengers accounting for about 30% of travelers in recent years.
