Tens of thousands of medical certificates online

More than 50,000 sick leave certificates were issued online within less than a month of the system's launch, according to Nicoleta Colomeeț, the director of the Electronic Governance Agency, during "Pe făța" show on Moldova 1. She acknowledged that the widespread adoption of the platform revealed several shortcomings that necessitated some adjustments.
"We have fully digitized this system and the product itself. We have collaborated extensively with the Ministry of Health and colleagues at CNAS and have engaged with various doctors. However, reality has surpassed expectations, necessitating several system interventions. The sick leave certificate is in high demand and is issued exclusively online. Since its launch in March, we have issued over 52,000 certificates," Colomeeț stated.
Both doctors and human resources professionals, including accountants, have reported difficulties, noting the need for clearer data presentation and improved information control.
"During the operational phase, we identified opportunities for improvements and adjustments based on user behavior. In conversations with accountants and human resources managers, we learned that they require information to be presented differently; they desire greater control and visibility with all relevant data consolidated. Additionally, we recognized that administrators or entrepreneurs may not always wish to provide complete access to all information," she added.
In response to this feedback, the platform has been updated to include features that enable differentiated data access based on user roles.
Starting March 1, 2026, sick leave certificates will be issued exclusively in digital format through the dedicated portal developed by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Electronic Governance Agency. In this context, doctors will issue, extend, close, or cancel certificates directly, with information automatically transmitted to employees, employers, and relevant institutions, eliminating the need for physical documents.
According to the authorities, digitizing this process helps reduce administrative costs, enhance transparency, and ensure data traceability, marking a significant step in modernizing public services and streamlining interactions between the state and the business sector.
