Government will propose ending state of emergency

The Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, confirmed that the Government will propose to Parliament the end of the state of emergency in the energy sector, stating that the measure "has achieved its purpose".

During the Executive meeting on April 15, the Prime Minister declared, "I believe that the state of emergency has achieved its goal. We intervened in time, kept the situation under control, and protected the citizens."

Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is returning to a state of normality, although he referred to it as "relative normality," given the ongoing risks and potential challenges ahead.

"In the spirit of democratic transparency, we have all communicated effectively. As you know, we have also presented the report from the National Crisis Management Center. Under these circumstances, the Government will propose to Parliament the termination of the state of emergency, and we will present our case during a plenary session, as promised" , he added.

The authorities are committed to continuing their interventions through necessary mechanisms "for the good and protection of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova."

The state of emergency was initially imposed on March 25, when the Vulcănești–Isaccea line was taken out of service due to Russian bombing, which contributed to a crisis in the fuel market amid the war in the Middle East.

To address the energy deficit, the Government authorized Moldelectrica to conduct direct purchases and restricted exports during peak hours to redirect capacity to meet domestic consumption needs.

The Isaccea–Vulcănești line was restored to service on March 28, and a national plan to reduce energy consumption was implemented to avoid disconnections during peak hours.

Although the state of emergency was declared for 60 days, the Government announced that it would seek its repeal as soon as the situation permits. The decision to postpone the repeal until after Easter was made as "a strategic precautionary measure," considering the fragility of the energy market and the increased consumption associated with the holiday period.
