Moldovan Infrastructure Ministry explores Smart City and digital transit solutions in Buzău

Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Bolea led a high-level delegation to Buzău to evaluate advanced urban mobility and public service digitalization models for potential implementation across the Republic of Moldova.

The delegation, which included State Secretaries Mircea Păscăluță and Nicolai Mândra, focused on scalable frameworks for traffic management and EU-funded infrastructure development. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between local administrative needs and modern technological standards.
Smart traffic and real-time data
At the Intelligent Traffic Management Center, Moldovan officials audited real-time flow management systems. These platforms enable rapid interventions and data-driven decision-making, significantly reducing urban congestion and improving emergency response times.
The team also tested the Unirii Boulevard Mobility Corridor, evaluating electric buses and dedicated transit lanes. Key focus areas included electronic ticketing and integrated passenger information systems, which ensure predictable and accessible public transport.

Digitalization and urban regeneration
Discussions with Mayor Constantin Toma centered on the "Mobility-as-a-Service" (MaaS) concept. This approach simplifies citizen interaction with public services through unified fleet management platforms and seamless digital interfaces.
The visit further explored active mobility projects, such as bike-sharing systems and urban regeneration initiatives. These models are designed to transform traditional urban spaces into connected, resident-friendly environments.
The mission concluded with talks at the Buzău County Council, where officials identified concrete partnership opportunities to launch joint infrastructure projects aligned with European development standards.
