Moldovan citizen detained in Moscow on terrorism charges as embassy seeks consular access

The Moldovan Embassy in Moscow has formally requested detailed information and consular access following the detention of a Moldovan citizen on terrorism charges. Russian authorities notified the diplomatic mission that the individual is accused of participating in the preparation of a terrorist attack.

In an official statement, the embassy emphasized that it has initiated legal proceedings to ensure the citizen's rights are protected. The mission is currently awaiting a response to its request for a face-to-face meeting with the detainee to verify their condition and legal representation.

The case appears linked to an FSB announcement made on April 14, involving the arrest of three individuals—one Moldovan, one Ukrainian, and one Russian. Security services claim the group planned to assassinate a high-ranking Russian military officer in central Moscow using an IED-laden electric scooter.

According to Russian reports, the vehicle was rigged with approximately 1.5 kilograms of explosives. While the FSB released video footage showing the suspects confessing, the authenticity of these statements and the conditions under which they were obtained cannot be independently verified.

The detention comes amid a pattern of Moldovan nationals being arrested in Russia on similar grounds. Moldovan officials have previously characterized such cases as potential diplomatic leverage, often questioning the validity of accusations brought by Moscow during periods of heightened political tension.
