US Embassy marks 250 years of freedom with Moldova tour

The United States Embassy invites the public to celebrate "USA Freedom 250" from April 22 to 24. This festival honors 250 years of American independence through live concerts, film screenings, and interactive activities with free admission for all.

The tour will visit Chisinau, Balti, and Comrat to share democratic values across the country. U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Nick Pietrowicz announced the initiative on Moldova 1, emphasizing that the event aims to connect with every citizen beyond the capital.
Cultural immersion and live music
Participants can explore American history, sample traditional cuisine, and meet Americans living in Moldova. The U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band will perform live, while Chisinau will host authentic lemonade stands on April 23 starting at 16:00.
Pietrowicz noted that the Declaration of Independence centers on the idea that citizens, not the government, come first. This festival celebrates individual liberty as a fundamental value shared by both nations over 35 years of bilateral relations.
Strategic investments in infrastructure
The partnership extends to vital development projects. The U.S. has invested over €92.5 million (approx. 1.81 billion MDL) in the M2 highway, modernizing nearly 100 kilometers of road infrastructure.
A recent allocation of approximately €120.2 million (130 million USD) supports the "Liberty" power line. This project connects Strășeni to Gutinaș, linking Moldova’s electrical grid directly to Romania and enhancing energy independence.
A symbolic milestone for the future
The 250th anniversary serves as a moment of reflection and celebration. While the U.S. marks its "birthday" every July 4th, this year’s expanded program highlights the specific cultural ties and common future shared with Moldova.
"We want to enjoy this together," Pietrowicz concluded. The festival represents an open invitation for everyone in Moldova to discover American culture and reflect on the enduring value of freedom.
