Chișinău International Airport enhances safety protocols for unaccompanied minors

Chișinău International Airport (RMO) has formalized its specialized assistance framework to ensure the safety and comfort of minors traveling without legal guardians.

The dedicated service, known globally as the Unaccompanied Minor (UM) protocol, provides end-to-end supervision for children. Personnel manage every stage of the journey, from the initial check-in at the "Eugen Doga" terminal to the final handover at the destination.

A seamless chain of custody

Airport officials emphasize that the process is designed to eliminate travel anxiety for both parents and children. Dedicated staff escort minors through security and passport control, ensuring a direct hand-off to the aircraft’s cabin crew.

Upon arrival, the airline's staff remains responsible for the child until they are personally collected by the designated guardian. This "door-to-door" supervision is a mandatory requirement for children under specific age thresholds, depending on individual airline policies.

Strategic requirements for parents

To utilize this service, guardians must notify the air carrier in advance of the flight. A specialized Declaration of Responsibility must be completed during check-in, requiring the physical presence of an adult at both departure and arrival points.

While Chișinău International Airport facilitates the ground logistics, authorities urge parents to consult their specific airline for age-related restrictions and potential service fees. The initiative reinforces RMO's commitment to international safety standards for its youngest passengers.
