Romania evacuates 217 after Russian drone crash

Romanian authorities evacuated 217 people from the outskirts of Galați on Saturday morning. The mass evacuation followed the crash of a Russian drone carrying a suspected explosive payload.
Emergency response and evacuations
Police and emergency responders secured the area, while residents fled independently or received evacuation assistance. Paramedics safely transported 11 individuals with medical conditions using specialized ambulances. Officials placed over 110 local homes under strict police surveillance to ensure public safety.
The temporary evacuation allowed bomb disposal units and technical teams to safely evaluate the crash site. Emergency crews continue to sweep the area to eliminate any remaining hazards and recover the drone wreckage.
Property damage and utility cuts
The defense ministry reported no casualties from the overnight incident in the Bariera Traian neighborhood. The crash caused minor damage to a household outbuilding and a local electricity pole.
Security forces established a perimeter around multiple locations where drone debris fell. Additionally, emergency officials ordered the local utility provider to cut natural gas supplies, affecting roughly 555 homes and businesses in the immediate vicinity to prevent secondary explosions.
