Harry honors Bucha dead, urges US action

Prince Harry visited the Ukrainian city of Bucha in the Kyiv region, paying tribute to the civilian victims of Russian massacres during the city's occupation. The Duke of Sussex visited the memorial near St. Andrew the First-Called Church, the site where mass graves were discovered in 2022, and spoke with the local parish priest.

Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk, who published photos of the visit, publicly thanked the Prince. Fedoruk expressed his gratitude for Harry's attention to the city's tragedy, stating, "Light is always on the side of truth, and today it is with us."

A call for American leadership

A day prior, Prince Harry attended the Kyiv Security Forum, where he urged international leaders to take decisive action to end the war. Pointing specifically to the Budapest Memorandum, he emphasized the critical role of the United States.

"Now is the time for American leadership to demonstrate adherence to international commitments," he stated, making a pointed appeal without directly naming the US president.

White house reaction

During an exchange with journalists at the White House, US President Donald Trump was informed of Prince Harry's call for firmer American action. Trump responded dismissively to the remarks.

"Prince Harry? How is he? How is his wife? Give him my best wishes," the US president asked reporters.

Trump later stated that Prince Harry "certainly does not speak for the UK," before sarcastically adding, "I think I speak for the UK more than Prince Harry. But I highly appreciate his advice — excellent advice."
