University of Medicine in Chisinau welcomes future students

Young people who wish to study medicine must be both dedicated and resilient under stress. To help determine if this is their true calling, hundreds of lyceum graduates were invited to visit the "Nicolae Testemitanu" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chisinau. A key attraction was the institution's anatomy museum, which features human skeletons among its exhibits. The visitors left feeling enthusiastic and determined to pursue a profession that fundamentally involves significant responsibility for patients' lives.

The event started in the university courtyard, where future doctors participated in a practical first-aid lesson.

"Personally, I plan to pursue a career in general medicine and, if possible, provide first aid myself. Yes, the work may be challenging and demanding, but seeing others recover and get back on their feet gives me a sense of well-being."

"It was fascinating to see the structure of the university and how receptive my colleagues are. That, too, motivates me to be a student here."

Before taking the Hippocratic Oath, students have much to learn.

"It is a simulator where first-year students start their practical training on dental casts. This includes isolating the operating field, removing dental caries, maintaining hygiene, and practicing all the necessary steps to prepare for a career in dentistry," says Tatiana Porosencova, Vice-Dean of the Department of Dentistry.

Young people who aspire to become doctors carefully examined the exhibits in the Anatomy Museum.

"I came here because I want to apply to medical school. I aim to become a cardiovascular surgeon. What fascinates me most is how intriguing hearts look. I really enjoy biology and chemistry, particularly the study of the cardiovascular system."

"I am confident that medicine is the future. I chose this speciality because I am passionate about understanding how the human body works, and I even aspire to specialise in neurosurgery. I have had this ambition for about 4 to 5 years, and I am determined to pursue this field."

"University is more challenging; I have relatives in this field, and I understand how difficult it can be. In the future, I aspire to become either a cardiologist or an oncologist, but I'll decide after I know my admission score.

'Young people are often fascinated by developmental anomalies. We aim to draw their attention to the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Overall, medicine remains a mystery, and we are always learning,' says Angela Babuci, associate professor in the Department of Clinical Anatomy."

From students to university representatives, everyone emphasizes that medicine is a demanding field but offers secure prospects.

Silvia Ciubrei, head of the Communication Department at USMF, states, "The best young people in the country achieve the highest averages because medicine is not an easy field. While I don't want to describe it as complicated, it is a discipline that focuses on human life. We need young people who not only study well but also possess a good memory, empathy, responsibility, and professionalism."
