Moldova health insurance payouts rise to €306 million

Moldova’s National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) transferred over €306 million (approx. 6 billion MDL) for medical and pharmaceutical services during the first four months of 2026. This represents a significant increase of roughly 854 million MDL compared to the same period last year.

Revenue growth and funding sources

In tandem with rising expenditures, CNAM’s mandatory health insurance funds collected over 4 billion MDL (approx. 204 million EUR) between January and April. This figure marks a 300 million MDL increase over the equivalent period in 2025.

The primary driver of this growth remains percentage-based insurance premiums calculated from salaries. These contributions totaled over 3 billion MDL, up by 277 million MDL year-on-year.

Fixed-sum premium performance

Fixed-sum mandatory health insurance premiums also saw a sharp uptick, exceeding 416 million MDL. This category grew by approximately 103 million MDL compared to the first four months of the previous year, signaling broader compliance and enrollment in the national system.
