Less customs bureaucracy: All customs decisions go digital this summer

All customs decisions will be digitized by the summer of this year. The Customs Service has already converted eight decisions into electronic format, and another ten are scheduled to be digitized by June. This announcement was made by the institution's director, Radu Vrabie, during the "Banii" show on Moldova 1.

The head of the Customs Service has announced that a new measure is part of the comprehensive reform and modernization process within the institution. The goal is to simplify procedures for economic agents and reduce bureaucracy.

“Starting this summer, all customs decisions will be available in digital format. This change will speed up the process for economic agents and minimize human interaction, which will reduce the potential for misinterpretation and instead rely on objective decisions,” stated Radu Vrabie.

The modernization process will involve significant investments in digital infrastructure, estimated to be in the millions or even tens of millions of euros over the coming years. Vrabie noted that these investments will be recouped by streamlining operations and facilitating trade.

However, the reform also presents challenges for human resources. Vrabie mentioned that the institution will need to create new divisions and train employees in areas that didn’t previously exist within the Customs Service.

“We are going to take over the management of excise goods, which is a new area for us. We essentially need to create a division from scratch and train our colleagues to understand the European and international context,” explained the director.

He emphasized that the authorities are working to implement these changes quickly, ensuring that citizens and economic agents do not experience delays or disruptions in customs operations.
