“Teleradio-Moldova” Director General Vlad Țurcanu announced his resignation

Vlad Țurcanu, the General Director of "Teleradio-Moldova," announced his resignation on May 18 during a press conference held two days after the Eurovision Song Contest final. His decision came in response to criticism regarding the national jury's voting in this music competition. He emphasized that the jury failed to consider the sensitivities that exist between the Republic of Moldova and its neighboring countries, Romania and Ukraine.

"I am announcing my decision to resign as General Director of the company 'Teleradio Moldova.' I will submit a request to the TRM Supervisory Board. Although we dissociated ourselves from the jury's decisions at the Eurovision final in Vienna, the vote expressed is ultimately our responsibility, and mine in particular, as the head of the institution.

I refrained from giving the jury instructions; what happened is extraordinary. From our perspective, the jury did not take into account the sensitivities that exist between the Republic of Moldova and our neighbours, Romania and Ukraine.

Through my resignation, I aim to send a clear message: the fraternal relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, as well as our gratitude and respect for Ukraine, remain unchanged.

Our stance towards Ukraine is not one of indifference, and the feelings we hold for Romania can only be characterized as love", stated Vlad Țurcanu.

Vlad Țurcanu also emphasized that his resignation should not affect the institution’s functionality.

"At TRM, several critical projects for the independence and development of the institution have been implemented and are ongoing. These projects must continue, as their implementation is vital for the public that TRM serves and will continue to serve," concluded the General Director.
