Maia Sandu in Strasbourg: Moldova ready to open all EU negotiation clusters

The Republic of Moldova is prepared to move forward with its accession to the European Union by initiating negotiations on all chapters. This declaration was made by President Maia Sandu during her meeting in Strasbourg with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and various representatives from European political groups.

"We aim to move forward and are ready to open negotiations on all clusters. Both the European Commission and the Council recognize our preparedness. The Republic of Moldova is fulfilling its commitments step by step. A merit-based accession process requires efforts from both sides, and the Republic of Moldova is actively reaching out," declared Maia Sandu on May 18 at the beginning of her diplomatic tour, which is focused on promoting expanded partnerships for the security and development of the Republic of Moldova.

During her visit to the European Parliament, Maia Sandu will receive the European Order of Merit, a distinction established in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. This award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting European values and strengthening the European project.

Maia Sandu is visiting the European Parliament, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic this week.

On May 19, she will hold discussions in Strasbourg with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, as well as with the leaders of the main European political groups: the European People's Party (EPP), the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Renew Europe, and the Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA).

On May 20, Maia Sandu will be in the Netherlands, where she is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. The following day, May 21, she will participate in the Globsec Forum, a key international platform focused on foreign and security policies, at the invitation of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel.

The discussions during her visits will primarily focus on mechanisms for protecting domestic democracy and the necessary steps for the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union.
