Diplomatic dialogue renewed: Moldova’s Foreign Minister visits China in first high level trip since 2018

Chișinău seeks to strengthen dialogue with Beijing. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi will pay an official visit to China from May 21 to 25 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit aims to deepen bilateral dialogue and expand cooperation between Moldova and China in the economic, trade, investment, cultural, educational, and tourism sectors.
In Beijing, Mihai Popșoi will meet with Chinese officials responsible for foreign affairs, agriculture, trade, culture, and international development, as well as representatives from academia and the business community.
The program also includes a visit to Shanghai, where Moldova’s foreign minister will attend the Moldova-China Economic Forum.
He will also hold talks with local authorities, Chinese investors, and members of the Moldovan diaspora.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the last official visit to China by a Moldovan foreign minister took place in 2018.
China ranks among Moldova’s top three trading partners, with bilateral trade exceeding one billion dollars in 2025.
