Residents of the Orhei municipality, Taraclia city, and Rusestii Noi commune in the Ialoveni district will elect their mayors on May 31 during the second round of local elections. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced this date after no candidate achieved the necessary majority in the first round of voting held on May 17.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), candidates will be listed on the ballot in descending order based on the number of valid votes they received in the first round.

Voting in the second round will use the same electoral lists as the first round.

The CEC has established a rule for electoral campaign financing that states, "The maximum limit of financial resources that can be transferred or utilized in the electoral campaign for the second round of new local elections in the electoral district will not exceed the ceiling set by the Commission's decision. This ceiling includes expenses already reported for the first round."

As a result of the May 17 election, independent candidate Ramiz Ansarov received 23.14% of the votes and ranked first in the Orhei City Hall election. He was followed by Sergiu Aga, the candidate from the League of Cities and Communes Party, who obtained 19.53%.

In Taraclia, independent candidate Alexandr Borimecicov, with 31.01% of the votes, and Ecaterina Iacobceac, the candidate from the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, who secured 28.45%, will move on to the second round.

In Ruseștii Noi, Ialoveni district, voters will choose between Diana Nastas, the candidate from the "Democracy at Home" Party, who received 30.87% of the votes, and Valentina Merla, the candidate from the Action and Solidarity Party, who garnered 23.97% in the first round.

In six other localities where new local elections were held on May 17, mayors were elected in the first round, as the winning candidates achieved over 50% plus one of the validly cast votes.
