Graduates offered allowances of up to 375,000 lei to teach in rural schools

Graduates who agree to be assigned to educational institutions located outside the cities of Chisinau and Balti will receive an increased allowance of up to 275,000 lei. Additionally, those who choose to study in fields with a significant teacher shortage will receive an allowance of 375,000 lei.

During the Government meeting on May 20, the Minister of Education, Dan Perciun, announced an increase in financial incentives for young teachers, raising their allowances from 120,000 lei to 200,000 lei. This latest adjustment will be differentiated based on various factors.

"In recent years, we have made significant efforts to attract more young individuals to the teaching profession, and we are seeing a positive trend with a steady increase in the number of graduates choosing to work in our schools and kindergartens. With this decision, we are introducing additional incentives on top of the already increased framework," stated Dan Perciun.

For teachers in high-demand subjects employed in institutions located in Chisinau and Balti, the allowance will be set at 300,000 lei. Young teachers who choose to work in other localities will receive an additional 75,000 lei.

"For those teaching subjects with the greatest demand—such as biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, mathematics, and Romanian language and literature in Russian-language schools—the allowance increases to 300,000 lei in Chisinau and Balti, and to 375,000 lei for those in other localities," the minister said.

This increase in allowances is part of the authorities' strategy to make the teaching profession more attractive and to address the teacher shortage, particularly in rural areas.

Last year, a total of 429 young individuals were placed into schools and kindergartens across the country, marking the highest number in the past eight years. The goal is to increase this number to 500 young teachers assigned annually.

The new allowance will be paid in two instalments: half will be given after the first six months of work, and the remaining half after a year and a half. These new provisions will apply to young specialists who are assigned to the workforce after July 1, 2026.
