Nicolae Ciucă: Romania's accession to the Schengen Area will facilitate EU efforts to support the Republic of Moldova

Romania's accession to the Schengen Area is a very important issue for the whole set of measures being taken at European level, said Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, Agerpres reports. In a press conference held on Wednesday at the Victoria Palace with Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, the Romanian Prime Minister stressed that such a decision will facilitate the European Union's efforts to support all the countries on the Eastern Flank, as well as Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

"I discussed with the Commissioner the Schengen issue, which is very important not only for our country, but for the whole set of measures being taken at European level. And once we acquire this status, there are a whole series of aspects that facilitate all the steps being taken at the European Union level in terms of achieving the objectives of supporting all the countries on the Eastern flank, as well as Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova", said the Romanian Prime Minister.

The Romanian Prime Minister specified the relevance that Romania would acquire when it becomes a Schengen member.

"There is no doubt whatsoever that we are not only talking about the freedom of movement of citizens, we are talking about the freedom of movement of business and services, which will facilitate in extenso the efforts being made at EU level to support both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova", said Nicolae Ciucă.

EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton is on an official visit to Romania.
