Over 40 tonnes of Moldovan apples blocked and destroyed in Russia

More than 40 tonnes of apples from the Republic of Moldova were recently blocked and destroyed in Russia after phytosanitary authorities detected a quarantine pest in the fruit.
During inspections at a warehouse in the Pskov region, inspectors found suspicious insects in two shipments of Moldovan apples.
According to Russian authorities, laboratory tests confirmed the presence of a pest that affects multiple agricultural crops and can transmit dangerous plant viruses.
As a result, Russian authorities banned the apples from entering the Russian market, and the owners chose to destroy the entire shipment.
Official data show that in 2025, Moldova exported $36.8 million worth of apples to the Russian market.
