Moldova ANRE head Alexei Taran elected ECRB president

Moldova will chair the Energy Community Regulatory Board (ECRB) for the first time in history.
ECRB members elected Alexei Taran, Director General of Moldova’s National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), during their 65th meeting on June 3 in Athens.
The ECRB brings together energy regulators from nations including Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Albania, and Serbia. The institution drives the development of competitive, transparent regional energy markets aligned with European Union rules.
Regulatory framework and voting process
Under ECRB rules, the president is elected for a two-year term from among the heads of national regulatory authorities. The selection takes place via a secret ballot and requires the support of at least a two-thirds majority.
Institutional impact and regional integration
According to ANRE, Taran’s election represents "a recognition of the Republic of Moldova's contribution to regional cooperation, as well as the active role that ANRE plays within the structures of the Energy Community."
The agency stated that this mandate confirms the high regard for Moldova's regulatory authority at the regional level. Furthermore, it highlights the country's ongoing progress in integrating into the wider European energy market.
