Marta Kos: “There’s something special about Moldova” at Digital Summit 2026

The Republic of Moldova has emerged as a model for best practices in technology among European Union member states. The central message conveyed by the European Commission during the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 highlights that the digital sector in Chișinău is regarded as “a success story.”
At the event's opening on June 5, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos highlighted the Republic of Moldova as a prime example of digital potential.
"There must be something unique about your nation to envision such success. I hope to see this motivation and potential energy spread throughout Europe," stated Marta Kos.

Due to advancements in this area, the European Commissioner suggested that investors are interested in participating in the Republic of Moldova's digital infrastructure.
"Many investors recognize your potential in Europe. That is why I have included the digital sector of the Republic of Moldova in a call to mobilize private investment in Moldovan businesses. This initiative will help start-ups gain access to capital and mentorship, enabling them to develop their businesses here at home while competing with the rest of Europe," said the Commissioner for Enlargement.
Start-Ups "Made in Moldova" Gaining European recognition
The Commissioner also highlighted that "made in Moldova" start-ups are already recognised at the European level and are gaining popularity among international companies.
"There are already impressive success stories among Moldovan start-ups, such as Plannable, which thousands of companies worldwide use to manage their social media. Self Talk is another promising start-up that leverages technology and psychology to make mental health support more accessible. Additionally, the Moldovan startup Argus AI is a true European success story; they utilize artificial intelligence to enhance surgical precision and have been selected by the European Innovation Council as one of 70 deep-tech companies for special assistance," stated Marta Kos.
Alexandru Munteanu: “Our Ambition is to help build Europe’s digital Future”
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, emphasized that technology has fundamentally transformed the daily lives of citizens. The Republic of Moldova has embarked on a path of digital transformation, aiming to create an inclusive environment that enables citizens to access services more quickly and supports companies in accelerating their development.
“For us, digitalization is not merely a technological choice; it represents an opportunity for competitiveness, transparency, resilience, and a commitment to Europe. That is why we are developing this environment with various IT parks and striving to attract the best talents. We aim to become leaders in GovTech. Our ambition goes beyond simply joining the European Union; we intend to contribute to building Europe’s digital future”, declared the Prime Minister at the summit focused on digital transformation and innovation.

Less paper, more digital services
Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, announced that the Republic of Moldova will undergo a significant bureaucratic reform over the next two years. This reform will require all institutions to transition from paper-based processes to digital services.
“We need less paper and more digital services. Everything we have in our system should be accessible without requiring additional requests from the private sector and citizens. The government must understand this. This process will undoubtedly be challenging for some ministries and agencies. Nevertheless, it is essential that we move forward. We will push these reforms forward vigorously,” the minister stated.
This initiative is part of Chapter 10 of the EU accession negotiations.
"I am proud to say that we are set to temporarily close this chapter in 2026. A significant amount of work has already been accomplished in this area," Minister Osmochescu said.

The official presented calculations highlighting the effectiveness of digitalizing services for the private sector. He stated that, due to reduced bureaucracy, 264 million lei has already been saved, and an additional five billion lei could be saved if the full implementation is completed by 2026.
Osmochescu emphasized the importance of investing in digital infrastructure for cybersecurity. Last year, our country effectively became a “Chinese wall”, successfully defending against over a billion cyberattacks.
“We have proven our resilience and agility, alongside the member states of the European Union and the private sector. In 2025, our public authorities, citizens, private sector, and households faced nearly a billion attacks during Russia's hybrid war against us,” concluded Eugeniu Osmochescu.
After the official part of the event ended, in the spirit of Moldovan tradition, Prime Minister Munteanu, Deputy Prime Minister Osmochescu, and European Commissioner Marta Kos joined in a Moldovan dance right on the stage of the Moldova Digital Summit 2026.
The 15th edition of the Moldova Digital Summit, the premier event in the Republic of Moldova focused on digital transformation and innovation, will take place on June 5 and 6 at Arena Chișinău. This year’s theme is “Where Digital Vision Meets European Ambition”.
The summit will bring together technology leaders, decision-makers, investors, and international partners to discuss strategies to accelerate the Republic of Moldova's integration into the European digital space and attract investment through technology.
