Crimea faces food shortages and fuel ban after drone strikes

Occupied Crimea and Sevastopol are facing immediate food shortages and a complete commercial fuel shutdown following Ukrainian drone attacks. The strikes targeted the "Novorossia" federal highway, a critical logistical route connecting the peninsula directly to Russia.

According to independent outlets Aghenstvo and Current Time, local residents report widespread depletion of basic commodities. Grocery chains have begun rationing essential goods to curb panic buying.

Food rationing

“I thought it was a joke. I went to the store near my house – there was no sugar, there was no buckwheat. I went to another store – the same situation,” a Sevastopol resident posted in a local online chat group.

Local sources indicate the shortages are currently fragmented rather than uniform across the entire peninsula. Most residents initially discovered the supply disruptions through online community updates.

Fuel logistics

The logistical crisis escalated rapidly over the past week. Fuel supply disruptions began on May 30 immediately after drones struck the federal highway, which serves as the primary alternative to the vulnerable Crimean Bridge.

While authorities initially restricted gasoline sales, they suspended all commercial fuel sales on June 4. Civilian fuel distribution is currently restricted exclusively to pre-issued voucher systems.
