Fire breaks out in abandoned building in central Chisinau

A fire broke out on the morning of June 8 in an abandoned building in central Chisinau, prompting a rapid response from emergency services. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures, and confirmed that no casualties were reported.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) received the emergency call at 08:52. Four firefighting and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene on Aleksandr Pushkin Street.
IGSU spokesperson Liliana Puscasu confirmed that the flames engulfed the roof of the vacant property. First responders localized the fire by 09:22, and operations continued to fully extinguish the remaining hotspots. Authorities are currently investigating the cause and circumstances of the incident.
According to IGSU data, Moldova has recorded 739 fires since the beginning of 2026. These incidents have resulted in 68 fatalities, including one minor.
