Over 800 students join energy efficiency competition

More than 800 students participated in the national competition "Energy efficiency week in my school," where the most creative and relevant initiatives were awarded at the opening of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW).

A total of 73 teams, comprising students from 20 districts as well as the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, participated in the competition. The participants engaged in educational activities centered on responsible energy consumption and the utilization of renewable energy sources.

"The record number of students involved in this competition demonstrates that education is becoming increasingly important in driving the green transition of our country. The vision, energy, and creativity of young people are invaluable assets for the sustainable future of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Ion Muntean, director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy.

In the category for children aged 6 to 10, the winners were Biești High School from Orhei District, Cuhurestii de Sus Lyceum from Florești District, and “Viorel Cantemir” Lyceum from Sofia village in Drochia District.

For the 11 to 16 age group, the awards went to "Ion Creangă," "Alecu Russo," and "Iulia Hasdeu" Lyceums, all located in Chisinau.

Andrei Gritco, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, emphasized the crucial role of education in developing a sustainable energy sector.

"Investments in energy efficiency start with investments in education. Through this competition, students have demonstrated an understanding of the importance of responsible energy consumption, and they have the potential to become advocates for change in their communities," said Andrei Grițco.

Now in its fifth year, the competition featured hundreds of activities organized by students. These included thematic lessons, practical experiments, information campaigns, educational videos, interactive games, and exhibitions focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

According to the organizers, the initiative aims to make energy education a practical and accessible experience for students while encouraging their active participation in fostering responsible behavior towards energy resources.
