Chef Veaceslav Mitioglo takes traditional Moldovan recipe to culinary competition in China

A chef from Moldova will take part in an international culinary competition hosted by China from June 11 to 23. Veaceslav Mitioglo, who works for a restaurant chain in Chișinău, says he will present a traditional Moldovan recipe reinterpreted for Chinese tastes and culinary culture.
The “Chef of the World 2026” competition brings together chefs from multiple countries, who will be evaluated by an international jury.
"For me, this is not only a great honour, but also an opportunity to present our culture, our products, and a modern vision of Moldovan gastronomy on an international stage," said Veaceslav Mitioglo ahead of his departure.
Mitioglo’s path to the kitchen started, paradoxically, in medicine. He went to Kyiv intending to become a doctor, but while studying, he began working in a kitchen as an assistant. He gradually advanced, later completing an internship at a two-Michelin-star restaurant in Madrid, one of Europe’s culinary capitals. Today, he manages ten restaurants in Chișinău.
"The learning process for a chef must never stop, because we feed people and must always keep up with change," he said.
His choice of a traditional recipe for the competition reflects his culinary philosophy: Moldovan cuisine may seem simple, but its strength lies precisely in that simplicity.
