Igor Grosu re-elected PAS president: “A great responsibility”

Igor Grosu was re-elected president of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) at the party's fourth Congress. The event took place on Sunday, June 14, where vice-presidents, the secretary general, and members of the National Permanent Bureau were also elected.
Grosu was the only candidate registered in the race. By secret ballot, his candidacy received 925 votes in support, 27 votes against, and five ballots were declared invalid.
Igor Grosu noted that the Republic of Moldova is only halfway to reaching its goals. For the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), the most challenging part lies ahead, as the coming years will focus on implementing reforms. He emphasized that this is a significant responsibility.
"These are overdue reforms that should have been addressed 20 years ago, and we will pursue them with the same determination we had 10 years ago, as we bear this responsibility. PAS is a strong, pro-European party dedicated to improving the prosperity of the Republic of Moldova and fulfilling the aspiration to join the European Union. PAS must continue to grow, strengthen, and become a party with a tradition that attracts valuable members. Together, we will secure the future of the Republic of Moldova,” Grosu declared.
Maia Sandu, the founder of PAS in 2016 and its former president, stepped down from her position after winning the presidential elections. In a video message, President Maia Sandu stated that the Republic of Moldova is in a critical period in which actions or inaction will shape the country's future for decades to come. She encouraged the party to celebrate past successes while also shouldering the responsibility for the future.
"When I, along with other colleagues, founded PAS, our team could fit in a single office; now the space feels cramped. However, your strength does not lie in sheer numbers, but in unity and commitment to our shared values. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am grateful to everyone who contributed to freeing our country from corruption, bringing the Republic of Moldova out of isolation, and placing it on the right path toward a positive future. Now, it is up to each of you to continue adhering to the same principles and values that united us 10 years ago and to work tirelessly, out of love for our country, for the future of the Republic of Moldova,” Maia Sandu said.
During his visit to Chisinau, the interim Prime Minister of Romania and President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Ilie Bolojan, attended the PAS Congress. He urged the party to uphold its foundational values of justice, fairness, dignity, and a better life for its citizens.
"First, I congratulate you on opening negotiations for accession to the European Union. This is a correct step, and when history is written, your party will be recognized as a key player in laying the groundwork for this important project for Moldova. I hope that by 2028, with effective organization and governmental and administrative mobilization, you will indeed be able to complete this process and join the great European family alongside Romania,” Ilie Bolojan said.
In turn, MEP Siegfried Mureșan commended the achievements of PAS from its inception to the present day:
"Congratulations on everything you have accomplished in the first ten years of the Action and Solidarity Party. You supported Maia Sandu in winning the presidency of the Republic of Moldova through free and democratic elections. You won the referendum for European integration, supported President Maia Sandu's re-election, and secured parliamentary elections twice in a row with an absolute majority. PAS is now the only democratic party on the European continent that has won the last two rounds of parliamentary elections with an absolute majority. You are a model for the entire European People's Party, a model for Europe, and PAS is today the most successful democratic party in Europe”, stated Mureșan.

During the party's fourth Congress, the guidelines for political activities over the next four years were established.
We remind you that the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) was founded in 2016. Igor Grosu was first elected as the party's leader on May 15, 2022. Prior to this, after Maia Sandu won the 2020 presidential election and stepped down from her leadership role, Igor Grosu served as the interim president of PAS.
