The European Council imposed sanctions on Monday, June 15, against six individuals accused of undermining Moldova’s democratic processes. The restrictive measures target efforts to destabilize the country through Russian-funded influence operations and systematic vote-buying ahead of the September 2025 parliamentary elections.

The list includes Irina Vlah, the leader of the "Inima Moldovei" party and former Governor of Gagauzia. Brussels alleges that Vlah organized an illicit electoral gathering in July 2025 to fabricate popular support for the "Patriotic" political bloc. She is also accused of multiple visits to Moscow to receive strategic directives from high-level Russian officials.

The sanctions also impact Anton Tregub, a Russian coordinator for the "Moldova Mare" party. The EU asserts that he managed the party's campaign by facilitating illegal financing and voter corruption. Consequently, the party was barred from the electoral race due to these irregularities.

Another sanctioned individual, Anton Usov, is accused of infiltrating religious structures to influence voting preferences. The Council claims he coordinated clerical networks, facilitated illegal financial transfers via Russian channels, and organized the systematic harvesting of personal data during religious events.

Several of these individuals are linked to the Russia-based organization "Evrazia," which is already under EU sanctions. Brussels contends the organization serves as a hub for recruitment, propaganda, and the coordination of operative networks within Moldova.

This regime of sanctions was established in April 2023 at the request of the Chisinau government. It now applies to a total of 29 individuals and five entities responsible for threatening the sovereignty and security of the Republic of Moldova.

Sanctioned parties face asset freezes, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing them with any funds or economic resources. Additionally, the individuals are subject to a travel ban, prohibiting entry into or transit through the territory of the European Union.

The European Union reaffirms its commitment to strengthening Moldova's security and resilience. Brussels continues to support the country in defending its stability against ongoing destabilization efforts attributed to Russia and its affiliates.
