Moldovan and Polish MPs target EU ties and regional security
Moldovan and Polish lawmakers gathered in Warsaw on Tuesday, June 16, for the 11th session of the bilateral Parliamentary Assembly. The Sejm, the lower house of the Polish parliament, is hosting the high-level event.
The central discussions target Moldova’s European Union accession path and pressing regional security challenges.
Strengthening the European path
The co-chairs of the Parliamentary Assembly opened the session. These include Doina Gherman, Vice-Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, and Szymon Hołownia, Deputy Marshal of the Polish Sejm.
According to official parliamentary sources, debates focus directly on Moldova's EU accession negotiations. Lawmakers are analyzing domestic reform implementation and the strategic support Poland offers throughout this integration process.
The delegations will also examine new frameworks for economic cooperation and the expansion of bilateral relations between Chisinau and Warsaw.
Countering regional and hybrid threats
Regional security remains a dominant topic on the interparliamentary agenda. The MPs are addressing the ongoing fallout of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, alongside joint measures to bolster democratic resilience.
Furthermore, officials are evaluating strategic options regarding energy security, border protection, and countering hybrid threats. The session will conclude with the adoption of a joint declaration solidifying these bilateral commitments.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Poland was established on July 25, 2011, in Chisinau.
This consultative body promotes political dialogue and aligns common positions on matters of mutual interest. Plenary sessions take place annually, alternating between Moldova and Poland.
