Nicu Popescu, meeting Mircea Geoană: "Neutrality of the Republic of Moldova does not mean isolation"
The Republic of Moldova wants to become a factor of stability in the region, but neutrality does not mean isolation, says Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu. During a meeting in Bucharest with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană, the head of diplomacy in Chisinau said that this objective could be achieved thanks to investments in security and defence.
The issue of security in the region, in the context of the unjustified war that the Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine, was one of the main topics discussed by the two officials.
The head of diplomacy in Chisinau announced that during the meeting he reiterated Moldova's "firm support" for Ukraine's territorial integrity and the need to strengthen security in Europe. At the same time, Nicu Popescu says he expressed Moldova's commitment to strengthening global security through participation in EU civilian missions.
"We have stated that Moldova's neutrality does not mean isolation, and we want our country to become a factor of stability in the region. Investments in the field of security and defence will allow us to achieve this goal," reads the message posted by Nicu Popescu.
According to the post, Mircea Geoană reiterated NATO's commitment to deepen the partnership with Moldova and to support the reform agenda of the Chisinau authorities.
