Minister of Labor: Teachers get 5 extra leave days

Teachers will not lose any days of rest or vacation pay. In fact, they will receive five additional days off, as explained by Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru.
According to the minister, the change in the calculation method does not result in fewer rest days; it simply introduces a new formula that excludes weekend days. The method for calculating vacation days is being updated, but the total days accumulated so far will remain unchanged.
"I have heard concerns about the reduction in vacation days from 62 calendar days to 49 working days. However, the reality is quite the opposite. Previously, the 62 calendar days included all weekends. Therefore, when you took 62 calendar days off, you actually enjoyed 44 working days of rest at home. Under the new provisions, you will have 49 working days of vacation, which effectively gives you five additional working days compared to the previous arrangement. You also will not lose any vacation pay, as one day of vacation will equate to one working day," explained Natalia Plugaru.
The new reform was announced on June 19. As a result, when calculating leave, only weekdays will be considered; Saturdays and Sundays will no longer be included. According to the authorities, this change aims to eliminate discrepancies caused by weekends in the division of leave.
Most European Union member states already implement systems based on working days. The minimum annual leave length in European countries ranges from 20 to 30 working days.
