Online customs declarations from July 1 to reduce border waiting times

Starting July 1, travelers entering or exiting the Republic of Moldova who are transporting goods that require declaration will have the option to submit their customs declaration electronically. This new digital feature, introduced by the Customs Service, is designed to reduce wait times at the border and simplify the declaration process.
According to the Customs Service, electronic declarations can be completed via the public portal on the Trade.gov.md platform, in the eCustoms section. The form is accessible from a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, both before the trip and directly at the border customs post.
Once the data is completed and submitted, the system will automatically generate a reference number. This number must be presented to the customs officer during the inspection. Authorities claim that this procedure will significantly reduce processing time at the border.
The Chief Inspector of the Customs Control Section, Ecaterina Tanasiev, explained in an informative document that using the electronic declaration allows individuals to fill out the required forms from anywhere, including at home, the airport, or while travelling. Presenting the reference number instead of a paper form can reduce waiting time at customs control to just a few seconds.
The Customs Service emphasizes that the digital platform will be permanently available and accessible from anywhere in the world. The system offers users step-by-step instructions for completing the forms and includes features that minimize the risk of errors often encountered with paper forms.
In this context, the institution encourages travelers to exclusively use the electronic format for customs declarations, which is part of efforts to digitize and streamline processes at border crossing points.
