Moldova reaffirms support for Ukraine at Gdańsk Reconstruction Conference

Moldova continues to strongly support Ukraine, and the cooperation between the two countries is expanding through strategic infrastructure projects. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu shared this message at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which was held on June 25 in Gdańsk, Poland.

The event brings together political leaders, representatives from international institutions, and development partners to discuss support for Ukraine and the war-torn country's recovery efforts.

“It is an honor for me to participate in the Ukraine Recovery Conference and to join partners from Europe and other regions of the world in discussing how we can support Ukraine's recovery and future,” said Alexandru Munteanu during his speech at the meeting in Gdańsk.

Munteanu emphasized the Republic of Moldova's ongoing support since the beginning of the Russian invasion, stating that the authorities in Chișinău will continue to strengthen cooperation and connectivity between the two nations.

“The people of the Republic of Moldova, a neighboring country and close ally, stand with Ukraine. Our responsibility is to ensure that the reconstruction efforts keep pace with Ukraine’s resilience,” the Prime Minister said.

He also highlighted the launch of a bridge project over the Nistru, which aims to improve ties between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

“The Republic of Moldova will continue to support Ukraine, just as we have since the first day of this brutal invasion. We will persist in contributing through practical cooperation, enhanced connectivity, increased energy security, and closer regional partnerships,” the Prime Minister added.

In addition, he spoke about his personal connections to Ukraine, where he has worked for over two decades:

“My children grew up and matured in Ukraine. I have made lifelong friends there, some of whom are here today, while others are currently fighting for Ukraine and for all of us.”

The Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk is the fifth edition of the conference and the first to be hosted by Gdańsk, Poland, jointly with Ukraine. The event is attended by delegations from about 100 countries, approximately 40 represented at the governmental level.

A noteworthy feature of the Gdańsk edition is the inclusion of a new focus area dedicated to security and defense, proposed by Poland. This addition complements the four established themes: economic cooperation, regional development, the human dimension, and European integration.
