Over 174,000 people received reimbursed medicines in May

More than 174,000 people received reimbursed medicines and medical devices in May through the ePrescription information system. For the reimbursed products dispensed during the month, the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) transferred approximately 114 million lei to contracted pharmacies, more than 3 million lei higher than in the same month last year.

According to the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), more than 107 million lei was spent on reimbursed medicines, while the average cost of reimbursed medicines and medical devices per beneficiary amounted to 618 lei.

The largest share of the funding was allocated to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. More than 52 million lei was spent for this purpose, benefiting approximately 126,000 patients. In addition, around 37 million lei was allocated for medicines used to treat endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic disorders, which were prescribed to more than 74,000 people.

The most expensive reimbursed treatment in May was for epidermolysis bullosa, with the average cost per patient exceeding 1,255 lei.

During the same period, more than 18,000 people received reimbursed medical devices, for which CNAM allocated over 6.7 million lei.

The institution reminds the public that electronic prescriptions may be issued by any physician, including doctors working in emergency departments, as well as those providing community care or home-based palliative care.

Reimbursed medicines and medical devices can be collected from pharmacies by presenting an identity card, without the need for a paper prescription. Electronic prescriptions may also be filled during one or multiple pharmacy visits, depending on the beneficiary's needs.
