Heat warning in effect until July 1 in Moldova

Meteorologists issued Yellow, Orange, and even Red Code warnings in Moldova for the period from June 28 to July 1. Temperatures are expected to exceed 40°C.

According to the Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring Authority, a Yellow Code heat warning will be in effect for the northern districts from Sunday through Monday, with daytime temperatures expected to reach 33°C to 35°C.

The southern districts and Chișinău will be under an Orange Code heat warning, where maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 36°C to 38°C.

A Red Code heatwave warning will take effect on June 30 and remain in force through July 1. It will cover the southern districts of the country as well as the capital of the Republic of Moldova, where temperatures are expected to reach up to 41°C.

Overnight, temperatures will remain above 20°C.

Amid the ongoing heatwave, residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and to stay well hydrated. They are also encouraged to avoid strenuous physical activity outdoors.

Children should never be left unattended in enclosed spaces, even for short periods. Special attention should be paid to fire prevention, as the risk of wildfires and other fires is especially high during this period. Rescue authorities also warn that older adults, children, and people with chronic health conditions are the most vulnerable during extreme heat.

Relatives, neighbors, and caregivers are urged to check on them regularly and ensure they have access to drinking water, adequate cooling, and medical assistance if needed. In the event of heat-related emergencies, the public is advised to call the single emergency number, 112.
