Massive rocket attack on Sloviansk: There are dead and wounded
Russian missiles hit residential buildings in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk on Friday. At least nine people lost their lives, 21 were wounded, and the blocks turned into slabs of metal and concrete, Reuters reports.
Emergency services in eastern Donetsk Region, in a statement on Facebook, said the death toll was nine at midnight (2100 GMT), including a two-year-old child.
Pavlo Kyrylenko, governor of the Donetsk Region, told national television that seven Russian S-300 missiles had been fired.
He said there were "no less than seven places hit" in Sloviansk, west of the town of Bakhmut, the site of the heaviest fighting on the Ukrainian frontline.
Rescue teams searched through the rubble all night, using cranes, ladders and other heavy equipment.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, 34 high-rise buildings, 20 private houses, civilian infrastructure objects and 12 cars were damaged.
